RAPOSO QUINTANA, Gabriela. Territories of memory: The rhetoric of the street in Villa Francia. Polis [online]. 2012, vol.11, n.31, pp.203-222. ISSN 0718-6568. http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-65682012000100012.
This paper approaches the relationship between memory, identityand territory, using as vehicle the diverse commemorative practices post-dictatorshipdeveloped in Villa France, an emblematic neighborhood of Santiago (Chile). Thisrelationship is translated in using streets as a location where memory is situated aswell as it is itself a part of the objects of the memory. The use of streets is the resultof encounters and des-encounters through time, which involve the contents ofmemory as well as the material and symbolic characteristics of the commemorativepublic-space held practices. These memories, marginal in form and content to thosepromoted by the State, address and force a turning of the glance towards thecomprehension of the street as the result of multiplicity, of that which is wishedand not wished, as the result of practical actions of identity within the territory.
