This paper presents a synthetic review of the scientific evidence gathered concerning outdoor recreation experiences and their relation to the particular places where they are developed. First we discuss why leisure is a phenomenon closely linked to human development, stating that the latter is not attainable in the current human-nature relationship model. Next, through the presentation of various data and approaches, we illustrate the idea that outdoor recreation experiences constitute a privileged way to renew the human being-planet earth relationship paradigms.
