The goal of this paper is to provide a conceptual discussion that will open the way to the use of the notions of racialisation and sexualisation in the study of migratory phenomena that are taking place in Chilean society, starting fron theoretical discussions that gather contributions of social sciences and humanities, the definitions of racialisation and sexualisation emphasises the creation and identification of power relations that construct categories of race and of gender which are inscribed in the bodies of immigrants. This paper uses this theoretical foundation to explore the development of migration research in Chile. The document characterises three major periods in Chile’s migratory history where it is possible to find specific mechanisms of racialisation and sexualisation that structure chilean society. Finally, the paper identifies omissions and proposals in researches of migration in Chile, related to processes of racialisation and sexualisation.
