ANDRADE VERGARA, Gonzalo y REITER BARROS, Francisco. Social construction of the homosexual subject in humorous routines on the Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar. Polis [online]. 2016, vol.15, n.44, pp.237-261. ISSN 0718-6568. http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-65682016000200011.
In the past decades humor has become a specific topic of scientific study; however, its social impact as a particular form of discourse has been kept in the background. This article characterizes the social construction of homosexual subjectivity in humorous routines, in the context of the Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar (Chile) 2014. Five televised routines were chosen and then analyzed using discourse analysis, specifically considering the jokes and jesting that alluded directly to the issue of homosexuality; identifying rhetorical and metaphorical elements, as well as the construction of objects and actions present in the selected pieces, obtaining later five discursive axes around which the homosexual subjectivity is constructed. We conclude that although the “humorous speech” adresses relevant social transformations that have occurred in recent years, that does not necessarily question from a critical standpoint the established dominant discourses about sexuality, promoting, maintaining and reproducing instead the prevailing order in terms of sexual identity.
