This article aims at discussing Public Policies and Youth in Brazil, taking as a reference the 1980s to present days and for this, a brief history of the development of public policies in other countries and the repercussions in the Brazilian scenario is made. This is a study that is based on historical materialism as posture / conception of the world and method of apprehension of reality which, moreover, was carried out through bibliographical research. Without any intention of exhausting the subject, its importance is emphasized, especially in our current conjuncture, in which, in the name of the "alleged economic adjustment", rights historically conquered are violated. It is therefore the affirmation of the neoliberal project, in which consolidate the reduction of the social role of the State, the dismantling of public policies and constant opposition to the project that aimed at social transformation.
