Resumen
PRAGIER, Deborah. Indigenous communities facing the exploitation of lithium in their territories: similar contexts, different responses. Polis [online]. 2019, vol.18, n.52, pp.76-91. ISSN 0718-6568. http://dx.doi.org/10.32735/s0718-6568/2019-n52-1368.
The aim is to understand the responses of two groups of indigenous communities that are a few kilometres apart, have similar cultural traditions and institutional contexts, with regard to lithium exploitation projects. The general argument states that the different frames -dependent or autonomist- that the communities build, trigger different demands -of recognition or redistribution- and generate processes that produce divergent responses. The study focuses on the communities of Salinas Grandes and Olaroz between 2009 and 2016. The methodological strategy combines in-depth analysis within each case and subsequent comparison of the cases. The empirical basis of this work is 50 in-depth interviews conducted between 2016 and 2018, which were complemented by field observations.
