Abstract

NEUMANN S0TO, HARDY. METAPHOR IN ARISTOTLE AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO COMPREHENSION. Byzantion nea hellás [online]. 2012, n.31, pp.47-68. ISSN 0718-8471.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-84712012000100003.

In this paper I discuss specific aspects of Aristotle's characterization of metaphor. I argue that the metaphor contributes to the understanding and that the way she does that is closely related to the way it is set in the language as expressive use. To meet the intended purpose central subject passages in Aristotle's philosophy are discussed, submitted to valuation and extended reflectively.

Keywords : Metaphor; knowledge; clearness; pleasure; foreign air; to set before the eyes.
