The link between the School and the rural community has been characterized by the presence of deep structural inequalities, among them, the school dropout of young people and the consequent lack of opportunities to improve their living conditions. The aim of this project is to describe the experiences of three young people from a rural community, who dropped out of school and are currently working. We conducted semi-structured interviews with them about their school experiences, the causes of their desertion, and the importance and usefulness they give to education. We conclude that there is the need for young people from rural communities to expand their projections about the opportunities that formal education offers to them, to prevent school dropout; also, the importance of the involvement of parents and teachers to promote a safe environment and to maintain the interest of young people to stay in school.
