Our objective was to find out how Mexican indigenous schools implemented their school improvements plans following the 2013 Education Reform. This paper presents a qualitative research study with eleven primary schools participating in the full time school program. First, we present the concepts of inclusion and their relevance for this type of schools; then, we continue with the description of the school management´s governmental proposal followed by an account of the circumstances in which indigenous schools operate. Finally, the methodology and results are presented. The analysis highlights the management model as inappropriate for this type of schools, making it necessary to rethink the model in terms of inclusion. We conclude reflecting on the principles of inclusive education because we believe they offer further theoretical and methodological elements to enable an inclusive teaching work in vulnerable contexts.
