MAYORGA, Claudia. Joints of the exclusion: Policy attention to immigrant prostitutes in Madrid. Si Somos Americanos [online]. 2012, vol.12, n.1, pp.49-74. ISSN 0719-0948.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0719-09482012000100003.

This article discusses contemporary globalized society"s conceptions of women"s immigration and prostitution. At a time of increased female migration to countries of the European Union, the notion of trafficking in women has been used as the sole interpretive framework for analyzing the relationship between female migration and prostitution, and racist and xenophobic attitudes towards female migrant groups are evident. Based on the discourses and practices of three non-governmental organizations in the city of Madrid that serve immigrants who work in prostitution, it is possible to identify colonial and patriarchal aspects underpinning different institutional and political positions, revealing the complex nature of the relationship between migration and prostitution in the contemporary context.

Palavras-chave : Immigration; prostitution; Non-Governmental Organizations.
