Resumen

MORONG REYES, Germán. "DE LA NATURAL INCLINACIÓN Y CONDICIÓN DE LOS INDIOS": THE JUDGE MATIENZO AND HIS PROJECT OF VICE ROYAL PERUVIAN GOVERNABILITY, 1567. Diálogo Andino [online]. 2013, n.42, pp.17-30. ISSN 0719-2681.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0719-26812013000200003.

The classical historiography and the Andean colonial ethnohistory, have determined the documental value of Juan de Matienzo's work Gobierno del Perú in order to constitute the first structural design of governability of the Peruvian viceroyalty, and this in virtue both of Martienzo's experience as a learned man as well as his keen observations as a royal civil servant. His work has had a decisive influence on the Instrucciones, the classic and very celebrated work by Viceroy Francisco de Toledo. Taking as a point of departure both this historical context (the turbulent decade from 1560 to 1570) as well as the discursive structure of the text itself, three objectives are put forward. First, I wish to show that the text makes itpossible to study the different modes acquired by the classical tradition in the writing production of the colonization of the new world. Second, I wish to show that one can visualize in this document discursive formations from Europe, for example from the scientific as well as the medical traditions. And thirdly, I propose to show how this knowledge through the construction of identity was used to legitimize and justify colonial domination of the native population.

Palabras clave : Juan de Matienzo; Government of Peru; Identity; Discourse; classic tradition; hegemonic knowledge.
