DEVIA GARZON, Camilo Andrés. Issues of self-determination in East Timor and Western Sahara: The contexts that led to international intervention. Estud. int. (Santiago, en línea) [online]. 2016, vol.48, n.184, pp.75-101. ISSN 0719-3769.

This article aims to demonstrate the existence of transverse elements of analysis in East Timor and Western Sahara historical processes determined by issues related to self-determination of people's right. Elements such as European colonization characteristics, the departure of the European powers and the subsequent annexation by neighboring states and the relative international relevance acquired cases ending the twentieth century show matching items foreshadowing a similar ending to the self-determination problem for the two case studies but in reality did not happen.

Keywords : self-determination; Western Sahara; East Timor.
