Abstract

CORTES DIAZ, Milton. Chile vs «justicialista» hegemony: Conrado Ríos Gallardo's mission in Peron's Argentina (1953-1955). Estud. int. (Santiago, en línea) [online]. 2016, vol.48, n.184, pp.127-145. ISSN 0719-3769.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5354/0719-3769.2016.42572.

In 1953 Conrado Ríos Gallardo was appointed ambassador of Chile in Argentina. At the start of his mission he was a close ally of the president of Argentina, Juan Domingo Perón, promoting an economic integration between Chile and Argentina, the first step in a future Latin American union. However, after an exceptionally good start, wich included presidential visits of Perón and Ibáñez, relations of the two countries deteriorated rapidly, since Perón wanted more than economic union, influencing Chile's internal political affairs and promoting Argentinian hegemony, which Conrado Ríos tried to contain.

Keywords : Chile; Argentina; Juan Domingo Perón; peronism; Carlos Ibáñez; Conrado Ríos.
