BAYLE, Paola. Chile and United Kingdom: ups and downs of a diplomatic relationship not always so cordial (1970-1980). Estud. int. (Santiago, en línea) [online]. 2017, vol.49, n.186, pp.9-38. ISSN 0719-3769.

This paper will address ten years of diplomatic relations between the UK and Chile (1970-1980) in order to explain a number of elements that came together in the withdrawal of ambassadors diplomatic paths from the second half of the year seventies of last century. In 1975, the UK temporarily recalled its ambassador to Chile to the allegations of torture received by a British citizen detained there. This summarizes a number of factors, both internal and the scope of interna tional relations, which led to a diplomatic relationship not as cordial. Work in files Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Archives in London allowed us to reconstruct a bilateral relationship in the context of major political changes in both countries.
