A new biomedical magazine: Parasitología Latinoamericana

The information contained in the present editorial is dedicated mainly to the numerous and distinguished colaborators, readers (professional and students) and distributors who during decades have favored the magazines Boletín Chileno de Parasitología and Parasitología al Día with their valuable, efficient and maintained support.

New circumstances, of varied order and nature, new century?, have made necessary the fusion of both magazines- which we hope this will be a summation and potentation of the best of each of them - will be in force since 2002, giving raise to a new magazine that will receive the name of Parasitología Latinoamericana.

In 2001 the Boletín Chileno de Parasitología and Parasitología al Día, semestral publications, have their 56th and 24th birthdays respectively. In these lapses hundreds of valuable contributions have been published in our pages. These have proceeded from Chilean, Latin American and ocassionally countries from other continents, focusing varied topics on taxonomy, biology and biochemistry of parasites, clinical, immunological, epidemiological and prophylactical aspects of parasitoses, all of them, of one or other manner, having a central objetive, in a direct or indirect way, the man`s health.

At present, the Boletín Chileno de Parasitología as Parasitología al Día have reasonable and respectable supports: while the first - economically supported by the University of Chile Faculty of Medicine- is indexed in Medicine (National Library of Medicine) and the Institute for Scientific Information, and included in the Program SciELO- Chile, the second- supported by the Chilean Society of Parasitology and FONDECYT, is the official organ of the Latin American Federation of Parasitologists.

The present directions of our magazines, wish to express their acknowledgements to the Parasitology functionaries, for their permanent, renewed, loyal and uninterested help, in many diverse facets, and particulary the secretaryship personnel.

In summary, from the beginning of 2002, the colaborators, readers and distributors must address and maintain their correspondence with Pararasitología Latinoamericana (P.O. Box 9183, Santiago, Chile). The modalities, style and diagrammation of the new papers will be opportunely informed in the next issue, the last of each magazines.
